OVERVIEW

We’ll be doing some rock climbing at Manchester Wall, a set of old railroad trestles along the river in Richmond that are now used to teach people how to climb.  The railroad pillars are man-made, which means that they consist of a bunch of granite blocks that have been mortared together leading to some interesting climbing.  This trip is intended to be super accessible for the novice climber – you don’t need to have previous rock climbing experience to come, climb some, learn a bit about (and participate in!) safety systems, and have a great time.

The plan is to leave from the Student Activities Building at 2:30pm.  We’ll get there around 3:30pm, climb for a few hours until it gets too dark, and be back in Charlottesville by 8:30 or so.

As for gear, I’ll pick up everything you’ll need from the gear room, so be sure to let me know your shoe size in the questionnaire.  Be sure to bring water (2-3L) and a snack or dinner.  Wear clothes that are comfortable to move around in, and a jacket in case it gets cold.
Feel free to text any of the trip organizers if you have any questions.
