BEGINNER SUNRISE HUMPBACK HIKE

OVERVIEW

Starting the year with a humpback hike is a must. I’ve never done a sunrise. Combining these two facts created this trip! Also, what better way to start a Friday than a hike before classes? PS: Thanks for the inspiration Sarah!

Humpback Rocks is roughly a 2-mile hike (1 mile each way) that’s a tad steep. People of all skill levels love this hike so don’t let that deter you! I’ve given us enough time so we’ll stroll comfortably and take breaks as needed. Since the climb will be in the dark, make sure you have a flashlight/headlamp. The gear room has plenty of headlamps so just swing by one and check one out. If you really can’t make a gear room, text me and I’ll try and secure you one.

Schedule:
5:00 – Meet at Echols
5:45 – Arrive at Humpback and get our hike on
6:45 – Summit, snack, and say hello to the Sun
7:00 – Start descending
7:30 – Return to cars
8:00 – Back to Echols with time before classes

What to bring:
Flashlight/headlamp
Water
Appropriate clothing – Bring an extra layer for the ascent (better safe than sorry)
Summit snacks

I can drive but need one more driver to be able to take everyone. As such, drivers will get priority. Don’t forget, drivers get gas reimbursement + tip!

Although the plan is to get back at 8, things happen. If you plan to make your 8 AM, maybe don’t sign up. 9 AMs SHOULD be safe but keep in mind you might want to shower before class (the people you sit with and especially your class crush might appreciate this)
