Beginner Toprope Climbing at Reed’s Creek

OVERVIEW

Welcome back. It is time to release yourself from the confines of slaughter rec center and embark on a real life climbing trip, ropes optional (just kidding). Join Parker and I (Sofia), two of ODC’s super cool, money, swag, and awesomesauce sport climbing enthusiasts, who will teach you the ropes (haha) on outdoor toprope climbing at Reed’s Creek this Saturday! Reed’s is great crag for beginners with lots of lower graded climbs. We will be doing some easy top rope climbing at the 5.7-5.9 level, maybe higher if peeps are sending way too hard and feeling up for it. This trip will prioritize those who have never climbed outdoors before but we also welcome intermediate climbers! Parker and I would love to bestow upon you our knowledge of climbing so that you too can appreciate the joys of this fruitful and rewarding sport. We love climbing. You love climbing. Now, you may be saying to the computer, Sofia, I have never climbed outside before, how do I know what I must bring? Don’t even fret. I’m going to tell you in this list below, as well as what you can get from the gear room.

You should bring:
harness (gear room)
climbing shoes (gear room)
helmet (gear room)
chalk bag with chalk inside of it (optional) (gear room)
water
snacks/lunch
clothes you can move and twist and stretch and send in

We bring:
ropes
draws
quads
belay devices
alpines

Timeline:
10am – gather at corner of echols and embark on our drive
12:15pm – arrive at the crag
12:15- 6:00pm ish- climb!!!! (and hang out)
6:00pm- drive back to cville
~8:15pm- arrive back safe and sound
