Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
This class is designed to teach you the very basics of white water kayaking, to prepare you for future river trips. We’ll spend ~2.5 hours on Sunday, 7/17, on the lake at Walnut Creek Park (~10 miles south of town) learning such skills as the wet exit, how to paddle a white water kayak, T-rescues, and the Eskimo roll. Since I will need at least 1 driver for this, I will put everyone on the waitlist and move the first driver to sign up, and then the first 4 or 5 who signed up, onto the trip list. After drivers I am giving priority to white water kayak first timers but please sign up regardless of your experience level.
The plan is to meet at Echols at 10:00am (please be prompt!), get out to the park by 10:30, and be off the water by probably 2, but no guarantees. It’s probably going to be hot and sunny so bring water, SUN SCREEN, and your big girl pants.
The Club provides: Boats, spray skirts, pfds, paddles, helmets, and nose plugs, wetsuits, splash jackets, dry tops.
You should bring: swimwear, towel, change of clothes, water, snacks, sunscreen, and $6 for the park entrance fee.
