Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Come kayaking with me this Saturday!
I want to try to get as many people as I can out on the water this weekend, and the good Ol’Rivanna River is calling our name.
No experience necessary; I’ll be bringing a set of whitewater kayaks and gear and we will start with the basics at the start of the river (including wet exits, t-rescues, paddle strokes). Then we’ll paddle down a few miles of the class I-II Rivanna river here in Charlottesville where you’ll get a chance to work on your skillz, or just hang out.
River Description: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/2001
(Currently pretty low, but we are expecting some rain before then so I’ll keep everyone updated)
If you have your own boat and gear and can provide transportation, you are automatically added to this trip. Otherwise, I will take as many beginners as our fleet of kayaks and racks allow. Because this trip is driver dependent, everyone will be waitlisted initially, but I will add people as I can.
We’ll stop for lunch somewhere on the river most likely, so pack a lunch!
Meet at Echols Dorm at 10am, leave from there. Paddle for a few hours, and return to grounds by 4pm at the latest.
Your boat/gear if you have it, footwear that can get wet (though the club has a limited selection of neoprene booties), swimwear, change of clothes, towel, sunscreen, food/drink for lunch, 16-20oz bottle of water (it will fit in the boat), money for snacks
THE CLUB PROVIDES: kayak and gear (pfd, helmet, noseplug, paddle, spray skirt, neoprene booties), kayak and gear transport.
