OVERVIEW

Response to my original trip description was poor, so I’ve hereby re-branded this trip as: BEGINNER WHITEWATER KAYAKING! And we’re likely going to Balcony Falls (no canoes or fishing)

I’ve adjusted the signup deadline to 2:00 AM Saturday… and departure time to 10 AM Saturday (*From Bonnycastle*). We may return earlier than indicated depending on how much carnage there is.

This is a first time on a river friendly trip. Only requirement is to have taken the intro trip with Dave C or been to a roll session.

I still need 1 driver.. and I’m going to take a leap of faith that I’ll get one before we depart, and de-waitlist people as they sign up, reserving one spot for a driver – Signup ASAP!
But in the event I don’t get a driver, I’ll be forced to cancel trip (unless someone else wants to bike or hike our 5 mile shuttle) and will email and call everyone in the morning if that happens.

Bring bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, snacks, and warm non-cotton layers.

*ORIGINAL TRIP*

I reckon I’m going to take a weekend off from advanced whitewater paddling, and hopefully get my canoe float-fishin on!
But I’ll paddle whatever craft and river I’ve got company on (whether its float fishing in a canoe, and/or a beginner level whitewater kayaking trip)

So indicate in the Q/A what craft you want to paddle (i.e. whitewater kayak, canoe, and if you know how to fish and have your own gear) and any other trip requests you may have.

PREREQ’S (all trips/crafts):
All must know how to swim!
All must expect to get wet! (club can provide cold water gear)

Canoe:
Good balance… Previous experience in a canoe would be helpful, but not required.

Whitewater Kayak:
You must haven taken the walnut creek flatwater intro from Dave C, or having been to a pool roll session to use a kayak.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m shooting to make this a mostly flat river canoe/fishing trip – and will give priority to those that want to do that. But those so inclined are welcome to paddle whitewater kayaks along side the canoes (but not too close 😉 – just don’t expect a lot of thrilling rapids! If there’s no takers for canoe/fishing – we’ll go to balcony falls or similar with the kayaks (beginner WW trip).

Fishing:
Virginia Freshwater Fishing License $23 – purchase and save/print it online here: http://secure01.virginiainteractive.org/horf/ (Everyone in the club should meet the instate residency requirements)

Spinning Rod: Bring your own + tackle. If you need a shopping list, let me know.
Fly Rod: You need to check out one from the gear room if you wish to use a club one.
Whichever rod you bring: Proficiency at casting would be highly desirable, such that you don’t hook someone else nearby!

Logistics:
I need at least 1 other driver for shuttle, roof rack not required but would be helpful. I’m limiting the trip to 6 people as that’s all the cats I feel like herding and about all I have rack space for. Times may be adjusted slightly depending where we go.
I’ll pick a trip format/river segment Friday night by 9 PM and announce it to everyone that has signed up – please promptly tell me at that time if you can no longer make it.
Bring Lunch – or $ to procure it, Sunscreen, Bathing Suit

SIGNUP EARLY – so that I can get the activities/roster figured out early.
