Student Activities Building Parking Lot
Student Activities Building Parking Lot
Blackrock Summit, Appalachian Trail, Grottoes, VA, USA
Hey there outdoorsy people!
Who likes a good view without much effort, playing a round or two of cards (Hearts, anyone?), and meeting some awesome new people while sitting on the top of a mountain?
If you thought to yourself, “hike yeah!” to any or all of the above, then join me this Sunday (the 1st) for a hike and some card games on Blackrock summit! The summit has a cool rock scramble and some of the best 360 views in Shenandoah National park, but the hike itself is only a mile long, making this the perfect trip for any beginner hikers or anyone who wants a relaxing way to begin their Sunday! If you want to read more about the hike itself, here’s a link to check out (https://www.theoutbound.com/virginia/hiking/hike-to-blackrock-summit-shenandoah-np#), otherwise take a look at the nitty gritty details below…
The game plan:
1. Meet in the Student Activities Building Parking Lot at 9AM sharp.
2. Drive to the parking area (and enjoy a beautiful 16 miles of cruising on Skyline Drive in the process), arriving at roughly 10:15AM.
3. Hike to the top! Should be admiring the view no later than 11AM.
4. Hang out, play a round or two of cards, and enjoy ourselves!
5. Hike down and head back to Grounds, getting home close to 1PM to start those first week back assignments.
What to Bring:
1. WATER! (a liter or two)
2. Raincoat (it always rains when you don’t bring it)
3. Snacks (if you think you’ll want them)
4. Cards (or at least an enthusiasm for playing some)
**Be sure to wear comfortable, supportive shoes and (if you burn to a crisp like me) sunscreen**
Transportation:
My car will only fit five people, so we need at least one other driver! You will get reimbursed for gas PLUS a 50% tip, just be sure to show up with a full tank!! Priority will be given to drivers and those with a Shenandoah National Park pass.
Hope to see you there!
