Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Stony Man Mountain
So you may or may not have heard, but hike+pancakes part 1 didn’t quite go according to plan… As in, there were no pancakes. And no hike either actually now that I think of it :/ Also, the last time I led a sunset trip to Stony Man the group somehow ended up on two different Mountains so that wasn’t ideal.
Anyways, redemption time.
Fall foliage is at it’s freakin finest, Stony Man sunsets are still seriously superb, and pancakes will always be pleasantly palatable, so you won’t wanna miss this one if you can help it.
The plan is to squeeze a solid hike with lots of views, sunset viewing, and pancake eating party all into one. We’ll leave from Echols at 3, drive ~1hr 20min and hope to start hiking no later than 4:30, hike along the AT for a mile or so until we get to the Little Stony Man Summit and appreciate some dank views of the Shenandoah Valley, then retrace our steps a bit and get up to the Stony Man Summit to catch the sunset ~6:15 where we’ll scarf down some pancakes and maybe hot chocolate.
That covers all the major food groups right?
We’ll leave the parking lot around 7 which’ll put us back on grounds no later than 8:30, so plenty of time to be responsible and both finish up any work and get a good nights sleep.
