Bridge Day 2018!! Get Pitted!

OVERVIEW

Alright guys.

We’re gonna just say fuck it and fuck you to all our classes, meetings, restaurant shifts, half-committed tinder dates (admit it, you were hesitant to go anyways), that Friday afternoon CS office hour, prior obligations, yadda yadda yadda and head out to the 39th annual BRIDGE DAY!

Every year on the third Saturday in October the New River Gorge Bridge closes to traffic and opens to attitude n altitude! BASE jumpers, rappellers, vendors and spectators share the excitement, the spectacle, the experience of Bridge Day! The NRG Bridge is 3030 feet long and 876 feet high, and is an ICONIC symbol of West Virginia. The Bridge Queen didn’t really have to show out like that for us but she did and she is a STAR.

Campsite:

PLANNNNNNNNN
Friday: We will tentatively leave on Friday around 3pm from Echol’s. We will arrive at NRG around 6:30pm. We may stop at Taste of Bridge Day in Fayetteville (ends at 9pm but TBD). We will be staying at Chestnut Creek Campground in their stargazing field. There is a communal fire place and plenty of space for tents. We are a mere half mile from the Bridge. Set up camp, eat, shit, sleep, don’t sleep ?, get a lil hot n toasty with apple cider, get a massage circle going. You know, classic ODC stuff.

Saturday: Wake up at 7am. Complete the 4.5 mile hike down into the Gorge, where we will watch the Bridge Day Festivities, which start at 9am. Leave at 2pm (hike the 4.5 miles back), pack up our cars, go to the “Chili Cook-off & Craft Beer Fest” until 5pm. Drive back and arrive back to Charlottesville around 8,9pm (no major rush).

Lodging is fully reimbursed by the club, and so is gas WOO! I will get tents to accommodate the full group.

STUF U GONNA NEED:
-Camping gear (sleeping bag, sleeping paid)
-Dinner for Friday, *quick* snack/breakfast for Saturday, various shmackos
-cash (there are VENDORS and FOOD STANDS at the fest!)
-water bottles, i can fill up some of our jugs from the gear room
-sporks, carabiners, 21 pairs of underwear

-full tank of gas
-half a pack of cigarettes
-sunglasses
