OVERVIEW

This is a Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking trip to the New River Gorge in WV for the Bridge Day Festival, and we will attempt to get the best seats in the house for viewing the Bridge Day jumpers – which would be on the river below the bridge!
Official Bridge Day info here: http://www.officialbridgeday.com
TIMES/PLAN:
Sorry for the short notice, signup quick so I can get stuff figured out! I hope to have roster set well before the signup deadline.
Friday: Leave Cville, head to WV to camp (probably at Ray’s).
Saturday: Launch on the Lower NRG and boogie down to Fayette Station eat lunch and watch the jumpers till 5 PM (or whenever they reopen the road out). There will be a vehicle heading back to Cville Sat night for any that want to get back to town – that can all be figured out on the river Saturday.
Sunday: No official trip today – Everyone that wants to hang around is somewhat on their own. There will probably be a few raft seats available in another private raft for any that want another rafting fix, and for hardboater’s with the appropriate skills – there’s the NRG and Gauley. There’s also plenty of hiking and other dryland opportunities.
RAFTING:
There’s limited space available on private rafts Saturday for sure, and most likely on Sunday – indicate in the Q&A if you wish to get on a raft, and on which days. Raft rental fees are $35/person/day (a bargain compared to equivalent commercial trips). Minimum skills required is ability to swim, and desire to get wet! Don’t forget to tip your guide!
DISCLAIMER/LEGAL:
I am NOT “leading” any river trips, I am only coordinating some transportation and logistics. YOU are responsible for your own safety and the activities you choose to participate in while on this trip. Additionally, all participants must have read and must agree to abide by the American Whitewater Safety Code http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Wiki/safety:start? for the duration of the trip.
All who participate on this trip agree to participate as “Common Adventurers”.
REQUIRED HARDBOAT SKILLS:
The NRG is an Intermediate-Advanced run, Everyone gets waitlisted till I screen your skills for that, which should include: Reliable combat roll and/or stellar bracing/leaning skills such that you don’t have to roll.
FOOD:
No longer reimbursed by the club, and I’m not planning to do any cooking at the campsite, so bring your own food/beverages or $ to eat out and on the road. For the river Saturday, we’re going to attempt to float one of those disposable charcoal grill things down the river and grill out burgers/dogs riverside (I’ll supply those) – so bring $ to chip in for that if you wish to partake.
CAMPING:
We’ll likely camp at Ray’s Campground (same place as the NRGE), club has your camp fees covered. IF you need a tent/bag/pad – YOU must get it from the gear room prior to the trip – There appears to be one at 5:30 PM Friday.
Club Provides: Boats & Gear if you need it, cold water apparel, ride in vehicle, Ga$ for drivers.
You Provide: Any paddling and camping gear you already have (hit up the gear room if you need tent/bag/pad), Non-cotton layers for on/off the river. Bring your own Food or $ to procure it for all days you plan to be there.
