Bring a Big Pack to Lil Schloss: Beginner Backpacking

OVERVIEW

Gear up for some big fun on Little Schloss mountain! Since it’s suddenly not cold as h*ck outside, this upcoming weekend is the perfect opportunity to get outside and go on your next (or first!) backpacking trip. We’ll bring hot cocoa for when the sun goes down! Little Schloss is located in the northern part of George Washington National Forest near the West Virginia Border, and has some great views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

We’ll hike about 2 miles to the Little Schloss overlook, then hike a little farther along the trail to our campsite. Then, we’ll veg out and dine like kings!

Schedge:
Saturday
– 11am: Meet up at corner of Echols and drive to Little Schloss
– 12:45pm: Park at trailhead and set off
– 2pm: Arrive at Little Schloss overlook; snacktime
– 2:45pm: Walk a lil further up the trail to campsite, set up camp and veg out
– 7pm: Dinnertime… dining like kings
Sunday
– 7am: Rise from our slumber and dine on brekkie
– 7:30am: Pack up and head back to cars
– 9:30am: Drive home
– 11am: Home again, home again, jiggety jig!

You will bring:
– Backpacking backpack
– Sleeping bag and sleeping pad
– WATER (3-4 Liters)!!!!!
– Hiking shoes
– Clothes + layers (check the weather: both low and high temperatures and potential rain)
– Rain coat + trash bag for water proofing
– Headlamp
– Lunch + dinner Saturday, breakfast for Sunday, snacks!
– Bowl/plate/utensils for meals
– Mug for hot cocoa

We will bring:
– Tents
– Pocket rocket, pot, and fuel
– Hot cocoa

**We need one additional driver, so they’ll get priority off the waitlist and be reimbursed for gas + 50% tip (we’ll bring the form and everything)**
