Cochamo Dreams is a 4 part slideshow that follows climber, writer, and adventurer Chris Kalman through his past four winters of climbing in southern Chile’s Cochamo valley. Although Chris is now a sponsored climber, and regular contributor to the Alpinist Magazine, the American Alpine Journal, and other publications – he has not always been so successful.

Chris’s slideshow takes us from his humble climbing roots in Northern Virginia, and Southern Maryland where he began to climb, to gyms, sport climbing, and eventually trad climbing. From major setbacks and constant butt whoopings, Chris’s quest for beautiful places eventually brought him Cochamo. After putting up his first new route, Chris fell in love with not just seeking out first ascents, but also with Cochamo as a place, and the people who live there.

Evocative, funny, and down to earth – Chris aims to humanize the process of new routing, and to inspire people wondering if they could possibly do so to strike out after their goals. The photos are beautiful, and feature not only Chris’s personal work, but that of professional photographers Matt Van Biene, and Austin Siadak. The piece closes with a brief photo montage, coupled with an excerpt from Chris’s feature piece on Cochamo, due to come out in Alpinist Magazine in the winter of 2014/2015.

There will be a raffle after the event, $2 per ticket with various prizes from Chris’ sponsors.
