Wassup you outdoors loving weasels?
If you’re a normal human you fall into one of two categories: you went to NRGE and have a deep itchin’ to get back outside, or you didn’t go to NRGE and wanna get your tootsies back into the beauty of Mother Nature quick-as-ya-like.
I’m here to help. Let me break it down.
Fall break. Hiking. Autumn colors. Different kinds of tea and plant-based beverages (read: Yerba Mate and Kava Kava plus others…. thanks Adrian and Ben for introducing me).
WHAT WE’LL BE DOING:
Basically, we’ll meet at Echols and make like a fetus and head out. We’ll drive to Shenandoah and head to the Stony Man trail head on Skyline. This hike is pretty easy — 3.7 miles with 860 ft of elevation gain. At the summit of Stony Mountain we’ll indulge in our ethnobotanical pleasures (read: make different drinks from hot water stored in a thermos).
After Stony Man, we’ll make the very short drive (less than 5 min) to the White Oak Canyon trail head. This hike is 4.8 miles with 1,200 ft of elevation gain. At the top of this hike is a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. The weather is forecast to be in the 60s…. I’ll be swimming, and anyone is welcome to join me, but you of course don’t have to swim. We will also have a picnic lunch at the waterfall. After lunch we’ll hike back to the car and roll back to the ‘Ville.
WHAT TO BRING:
– Hiking boots/sturdy walking shoes
– WATER (2-3 liters)
– A warm layer or two (might get chilly/windy)
– Picnic supplies (we will stop at Harris Teeter on the way up if you want to to that)
– Swim suit and towel (if you want to swim)
– Any additional hot beverage ingredients you’d like to bring
The $5 is for the park pass, might be more might be less depending on how many people come ($15 per car).
I (very unfortunately) do not have a car, so everyone will be wait listed until a driver signs up. Drivers will get off the wait list first.
