Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
James River- Scottsville To Bremo Bluff
Join me for two days on the James River!
This is an overnight canoe-camping trip, covering 12 miles of river between Scottsville and Bremo Bluff. We’ll load up the cars on Friday night and then head out to Scottsville, Virginia on Saturday morning. After we set up a shuttle, we’ll mosey down the river, explore some islands, and pick a prime spot to camp at the primitive Hardware Wildlife Management Area. Sunday morning we’ll paddle a couple more miles down the river until we reach the cars.
The route combines Class I, II, and III rapids, with a calm float on the first day and a more rigorous journey the second day. You don’t have to be an experienced paddler to come on this trip- however, I will be looking for a good combination of experienced and inexperienced participants.
A couple of things you should know:
– Because of the shuttle we are doing, we need at least 4 cars. Therefore, drivers will be given priority. If you know anyone who could rent us a canoe trailer, please let me know!!!
-Fishing is allowed on the river, so if you have a license, bring your poles!
-Camping is VERY primitive- no bathrooms!
-People who sign up should expect to be flexible- I’ve done as much as I can to find out about the river and weather conditions, but expect some changes as the date approaches. Also, return time is an estimate.
