Shrackyard (Shrack Backyard)
Also the Shrack
Ragged Mountain Reservoir, Charlottesville, VA, USA
CANOE KICK IT? If the answer is yes, you can, then you’re in the right place, my friend.
Fun fact: ODC has canoes. Less fun fact: I have never seen them used in the three years I have been a member of this club. This trip will change that.
Since Saturday is going to be so very warm, I thought it would be a perfect day to take the canoes out for a spin at Ragged! The trip is ideally targeted at people who have canoed at least once before, though I’m certainly willing to teach paddling basics if you’re completely new to canoeing and want to come. In order to get the most people outside and having fun in the canoes, we’ll have six of us, though that means that one person will be sitting duff in each boat (we will be switching though, so everyone will have the chance to paddle).
Because I’m pretty sure I can only fit one kayak on my car and definitely can’t (legally) fit six people in my car, I need another person to drive! If you have a car (ideally with crossbars), then you’ll get priority to join the trip. No gas reimbursement because Ragged is very close by and not eligible, but I promise you’ll be reimbursed with lots of good vibes and so much fun!
The plan:
1:00pm – Meet in the Shrackyard (Shrack backyard) at 116 Washington Avenue (either approach from Washington and go around the left side of the house or approach the backyard directly on Observatory Avenue) and put boats on cars
1:10pm – Head to Ragged! (Mandatory listening to A Tribe Called Quest in the car)
1:30pm – Arrive at Ragged and bring the canoes down to the water
3:00pm – Take out and head homeward bound to get back to the Shrack by 3:30ish.
What to bring:
– Water (and snacks if you want)
– Clothes and shoes that can get wet! Maybe a swimsuit? It’ll be warm
– A towel
– A Crazy Creek-type chair if you want to sit on it in the canoe (will be more comfortable)
*Please note that since this trip is in a deep body of water and I am not a lifeguard, you must be a comfortable and confident swimmer to be let onto the adventure*
