Canoeing Beneath the Stars at Ragged

OVERVIEW

Ahoy partners in shred,

I come bearing exciting news! As this odd semester winds to an end, Mason and I have devised a glorious final adventure that is sure to excite. When the sun drops below the horizon on Thursday, instead of feeling disheartened by how short the days have grown, we plan to saddle up our bikes and embark on quest for a most pristine stargazing experience. We’ll pedal over to Ragged and exchange our bikes for canoes and our handlebars for paddles. As we glide across the reservoir, chilled by the crisp November air, we’ll turn our noses to the sky and revel in the beauty of the cosmos above.

The good news is, the moon will be in one of its dimmer phases and Ragged is pretty sheltered from light pollution, so the stars should be very vibrant! The other good news is (ha, you thought there was gonna be bad news?), its gonna be really chilly, so the outing will feel even more absurd and adventurous!

The club has a new fleet of commuter bikes (AKA the Ragged Express), so a bike is definitely no a prerequisite for signing up for the trip. We should be able to provide a set of wheels for anyone that joins us.

Here’s the plan, listen close:
6:30 pm ~ Meet at the Shred Shack and get everyone fitted with bikes and helmets
6:40 pm ~ Roughly 3 mile bike ride over to Ragged
7:10-ish ~ Arrive at Ragged and hop into some boats
8:30-ish ~ Pull boats out of the water and head back to the Shred Shack
9:00 ~ Arrive back at the Shred Shack (This is not a guarantee, we may end up spending more time on any leg of the trip and get back a little later)

What to bring:

– Sturdy Shoes
– Water
– Bike lights if you’ve got them
