Corner of Echols
Corner of Echols
Riprap Trailhead parking, Grottoes, VA, USA
My original ODC shenandoah trip was to the cavalry and chimney rocks trail a whole year and a half ago. It’s one of my favorites but I haven’t done this trail in what seems like forever because every time I’ve planned to lead a trip there skyline drive has closed at the last minute and made me very sad. the weather has been pretty nuts recently but I don’t really see a reason they could close the road this weekend (fingers crossed). This is a pretty short hike because this week is scary busy, at 3.2 miles (830 feet of elevation gain), and is fairly beginner friendly – just please don’t wear flip flops.
Unfortunately I do not have a car so drivers are needed! If you have a car you will get priority and will also be eligible for gas reimbursement if you arrive at Echols with a full tank of gas. I will add more people to this trip if we get multiple drivers.
I have one America the Beautiful national parks pass that will cover one car with up to five people, so if you have a parks pass you will ALSO get priority off the waitlist. I have no idea if there will actually be anyone collecting fees but better safe than sorry.
