chilly not-as-scary st patricks day-y blackrock sunset (sunset series #2)

OVERVIEW

so remember how last week we went from 80 degrees to snow in 24 hours? Well get ready for round 2. If you’ve seen the “12 seasons of virginia” thing it really needs to get updated because we’re now looking at a third winter, with severe storms on monday followed by more cold (temperatures at only 40 degrees) on tuesday. Of course the only logical response to this is to go on another shenandoah sunset trip based on popular demand for the last one and bad weather supposedly making better sunsets. This time we will go to blackrock which is a really cool spot and a very easy hike. Move over carters mountain sunset series you’ve got (potentially temporary) company.

Oh tuesday is also st patricks day. I feel like it already happened honestly

Unfortunately I do not have a car so drivers are needed! If you have a car you will get priority and will also be eligible for gas reimbursement if you arrive at Echols with a full tank of gas. I will add more people to this trip if we get multiple drivers.

I have one America the Beautiful national parks pass that will cover one car with up to five people, so if you have a parks pass you will ALSO get priority off the waitlist. I have no idea if there will actually be anyone collecting fees but better safe than sorry.

Schedule:
– 5:30 Depart for Turk Mountain
– 6:30 Arrive
– 6:50 Reach summit
– 7:23 Enjoy sunset and vibes
– 7:40 Hike down
– 7:55 Drive back
– 8:55 Home sweet home

You Bring:
– Hiking shoes/boots with good traction
– Water
– Snacks/dinner if you want
– Warm clothes: it is going to be very cold layer up please
– Parks pass if you have one
– headlamp/flashlight for after dark
I bring:
– Parks pass
– Binoculars
