Climbing at Hidden Valley

OVERVIEW

Hello,

it is timb to climb.

We will be going to Hidden Valley in southwest VA. Although there are climbs for many skill levels, make sure you know how to belay and have experience top rope climbing. Here is a link to the mountain project: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/113166652/hidden-valley The guide book has many additional climbs; there are many sport routes 5.9 and down to a 5.6
The campsite does not provide water and has only a porta potty so be prepared.

Bring:
-sleeping bag
-sleeping pad
-tent
-hammock (optional)
-headlamp
-food:
-enough for lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.
-I will bring my pocket rocket, you can certainly use it but consider bringing your own or checking one out from the club
-water: THERE IS NO WATER AVAILABLE AT THE CAMPSITE SO BRING AT LEAST 4 LITERS
-climbing harness
-climbing shoes
-chalk
-some money for breakfast on the way up and lunch on the way back
-toothbrush and toothpaste
-warm clothes for night
-dress in layers for saturday
-appropriate shoes for a short but rocky approach

I bring:
-Myself
-the guide book
-stoke to climb in swva
-rope/quick draws/belay devices/helmets
-extra water
-first aid kit

Trip plan:
Leave charlottesville @ 7am on Sat. March 30th at the classic brick wall on the side of echols
Stop at my house and pick up the guide book I said I would bring but actually dont have yet.
Pull on some rock from 11 until dark
Campfire and bonding at hidden valley campsite
Be back no later than 4PM on sunday
The drive is ~4 hrs

I reserve the right to “ground” anyone who I think is behaving in an unsafe manner. For example, not wearing a helmet, free soloing, or rough housing is unacceptable. If you have any questions or concerns about safety or climbing technique please ask me.
