Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
White Oak Canyon Trail
This will be a bit of an adventurous adventure because I’ve never been to White Oak Canyon but I have a book that says there’s lots of good climbing there! Let’s go check it out!
The weather is saying we’ll have a high of 80 degrees with a thunderstorm possible. It’ll be a bit colder up on the mountain so a long sleeve short wouldn’t be a bad idea, and don’t forget a rain coat! I don’t think we’ll be out after dark, but you never know, so a headlight would be good too. Bring plenty of water – 2 liters – the trail might be a bit steep and the routes should be long. Lunch would be a good idea too, we’ll probably be out most of the day.
The hike should be less than 2 miles, which is a whole lot longer than the climbing approaches we’re used to but not that bad as far as hikes go. Sandals / flip flops are probably a bad idea as the hike might have some steep sections and there might be some bushwhacking involved.
The climbing will be all topropes. There are no bolts up there! Some lines might be leadable on gear but we’ll see. So, plan on topropes.
