Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Rise Up Climbing Gym
Rise-Up Climbing gym in Lynchburg:

I would like to get a group together and go to the Rise-Up this sunday.
The gym is quite smaller than Peak. Last time I went there, most of the climbing routes were 5.9-5.10 range and there were few 5.7, 5.8 and up to 5.11+. The quality of the routes are decent and comparable to peak. However, they have excellent bouldering problems (much better than peak in my opinion) featuring top-out section and steep overhang close to 15ft high. Overall, it’s a pretty nice gym which is about the same distance away and they are now offering the same daily rate as peak.
In order to belay top-rope, you must pass the test given by their staff on Petzl Gri-Gri (The Gri-Gri is attached permanently to the rope so you don’t need to bring your belay device unless you are leading). No other type of belay device (including ATC) is allowed in the gym. If you already know how to belay with an ATC, using Gri-Gri will not be difficult because it uses a similar concept except that it’s auto-locking. Lead test and top-out test are separate.
You are on your own for the gear until I have an access to the gear room. Rise-Up offers gear rentals. Entrance price is $9 with 6 or more. Given the size of the gym, I will limit the maximum number to about 12. We will leave from Echols at noon. I am planning on getting back around 5 or 6.
Club Provides: money for gas + tips for driving, incredible trip leaders
Bring: gear you do have, $9.00 fee for admission to the gym, plenty of water
I’ll increase the # of attendees as more drivers sign up.
