OVERVIEW

Hello my climbing enthusiasts and skeptics,

As we get into the semester and some yummy climbing season (which is ALL YEAR), I’m hoping to start us out by leading a little workshop/presentation that will help give new club members & climbers some basic foundational knowledge of what types of climbing ODC offers. I remember being very confused and intimidated upon entering the club and seeing all sorts of silly new words (& numbers??) in the climbing trip descriptions, which held me back from trying to get on climbing trips. This workshop will hopefully send you off with some confidence that you understand the different kinds of climbing, which trips you’re able to join, & what you’re getting into when you join a trip. All skill, knowledge, & experience levels (yes, including none!) are welcomed and encouraged to join.

Things I will discuss include:
– types of climbing we offer (bouldering, roped climbing including toprope, sport, & trad; multi-pitch, rappelling, and deep water soloing) & how they work
– what gear is associated with each type of climbing
– what gear you will most likely need to check out for different types of climbing trips (& what it’s used for)
– risks associated with each

All you need to bring is yourself, whatever you need to sit comfortably (potentially on the ground) for a while, and any enthusiasm or questions. I’m aiming to be done in less than an hour.
