Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Cole Mountain, Appalachian Trail, Vesuvius, VA, USA
Hello fellow lovers of the outdoors, come celebrate the first month of classes (roughly speaking) with me with a hike to Cold (Cole?) Mountain! I haven’t been before but it looks cool with some nice views (Hiking Upward compares the hike to Scotland and Switzerland!), and it isn’t too long (~5.8 mi).
Where: Echols dorm/Cold Mtn
When: Sunday, September 22
Additional info: https://www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/ColdMountain/
Here’s the plan:
10:30 – meet at Echols dorm, by the side door
12:00 – arrive at the trailhead
~2:00/2:30 – eat a late lunch, hopefully with a view of the surrounding landscape
4:00 – arrive back at the car(s)
6:00 – arrive back at UVA
What to bring:
– 2L of water
– Lunch/food for yourself
– Snacks if you think lunch might not be enough
– Good shoes for hiking
– Rain coat if the weather forecast calls for wetness
– Sunscreen if you don’t want to burn
– Optional: long pants if you want greater protection against ticks
DRIVER(S) NEEDED: I do not have a car, so without any drivers this trip cannot happen! The drive is about 1.5 hours/65 miles and you will be reimbursed for gas + 50% tip, as well as get priority off the waitlist. Please arrive with a full tank of gas.
