Corner of Echols (or wherever you want to be picked up)
also wherever!
McAfee Knob Trailhead, Catawba Valley Drive, Catawba, VA, USA
It was the most beautiful of days, it was the most painful of days. What if we ran 30 miles and around 6k feet of gain all in one day? I want to, and would love some company! The triple crown loop is a beautifully scenic route, with around 1/2 of it being on the AT and the rest on Andy Layne and North Mountain. It’s brutal but well worth it for the views. BUT I am a rock scramble hater so we won’t be running up to the Dragon’s Tooth peak #doubleCrownSupremacy. This is an ADVANCED trip. Please do not sign up unless you have run at least 20 miles in the past, and are confident you can complete the trek. We will slow down, but I don’t want to fear for anyone’s health and safety. I am planning to stash food at the Andy Layne Parking lot (~13 miles) and the Dragon’s Tooth parking (~25 miles) in for a refresh, so we don’t have to carry everything. Also, looking for drivers!
Here’s the crazy plan:
6:30 AM gather
8:00 AM- stash food
8:30 AM arrive at trailhead and start moving
Several hours later, get food and water from stashes
Whenever we finish, we finish. I expect it to take probably 6-8 hours depending on if we stop, etc
Drive home!
What you need to bring, if you decide to embark:
3L bladder and some way to carry it (backpack, vest, etc)
Extra water bottle for our makeshift supply station.
Lots and lots of calories in food. Some to carry, some to stash
Comfy, grippy trail-appropriate running shoes
