Description
Is sitting in a car not sendy enough for you? Bike to Creekathon! For this trip we’ll be biking from the Shred Shack to Creekathon which is a 10 mile ride (https://www.strava.com/routes/2877325816707511532). Once there, you can either go on trips that you’re already signed up for or just hang out with slacklines, a frisbee which I will provide, or me as I help cook the food. Afterwards, you can either wait to leave with me when Creekathon is over (I’m leaving at about 2pm) or you can bike back yourself whenever you feel like it.
A notes on trip difficulty: This route does bike on main roads so I am expecting that you are already pretty comfortable biking on roads with cars. Additionally, the route is hilly and has a lot of curves so I am expecting that you are proficient at bike handling. If you have any concerns about if this trip is good for you, you can text me! Because of the nature of this ride I’m going to strongly strongly suggest that you either use a road bike or suspensionless bike with skinny tires (i.e., doesn’t need drop bars but needs to be nice ‘n’ speedy. This is to ensure that we can stay safely together as a group and prevent anyone from getting hurt. If you have a mountain bike but feel strongly that you can keep up with road bikes on hills going ~15mph, you can text me.
What to Bring
– A bike*
– A helmet (I won’t let you come without one)
– Water (1-2L)
– Snacks for when we arrive before the food is ready
– Any other equipment you need for other creekathon trip
* again, pls pls use a road or another suspensionless bike with skinny ish tires or it will probably suck. We don’t have any road bikes as a club, and while I hope we get there someday I cannot provide the type of bike necessary to do this ride safely.
What I’ll Bring
– A frisbee
– Knowledge of how to get to Walnut Creek by bike
Timetable
– 9:15 AM: Meet at the Shred Shack to make sure everyone has helmets and full tires
– 9:30 AM: Leave for Walnut Creek
– 10:30 AM: We’re at Walnut Creek and ready to do other Creekathon activities
~ break where you can do whatever you want ~
– 2:00 PM: depart back for grounds (you can leave before or later if you want, but that’s when I’m leaving)
– 3:00 PM: arrive back in Charlottesville
A note on the waitlist:
Because this trip does require some previous experience with cycling to be completed safely, I will be prioritizing people who are more experienced cyclists. Also, since the limiting factor with the carpool right now is food I’ll be prioritizing people already on the Creekathon trip.
