Howdy friendos – never rolled a kayak before? Well I have. Not much, but a few times. With this bare-minimum level of knowledge, I will attempt to teach you this fundamental whitewater paddling move wherein you flip over your boat and turn it right side up again without getting any water up your nose.
We’ll be learning in the calm, hospitable flatwater of the Walnut Creek Lake, so no experience is necessary (you’ll be wearing a life vest). However, you should be comfortable in water and be ready for an experience that will probably be a bit uncomfortable at first.
**You’ll be getting to the ‘nut via the MAIN CREEKATHON CARPOOL. Make sure you’ve signed up for that as well – you can still go even if you’re on the waitlist for this trip, as there will be lots of casual activities going on**
You need:
-bathing suit
-Sandals/water shoes/old sneakers (optional)
-sunscreen (optional but protecc yourself)
-towel & change of clothes (optional? temps in the 70s, your call)
-your favorite pair of lungs
I provide:
-boats (let me know your height in the questions)
-paddles, skirts, PFDs, helmets
-amateur instruction (I am a lifeguard, so even if I can’t teach you to roll I can probably ensure your survival)
We’ll rally around 12:30 at the main pavilion area and head down to the lake, and probably be done after 1-1.5 hours. At which point we’ll go flip over all the SUPers. Everyone will be waitlisted until I secure boats for you.
