OVERVIEW

Ever tried cross country skiing? It’s really fun, aerobic, and requires little experience. We’ll be traveling to White Grass Touring Center near Canaan Valley, WV where we will spend Saturday skiing on their 50km of trails. Right now, it looks like we might get some snow on Saturday!

We will leave Saturday morning EARLY and drive to Canaan Valley, where we will spend the day exploring one of the best cross country ski areas in the mid-Atlantic www.whitegrass.com. We will ski till late afternoon and then return home, hopefully by 10pm.

The weather forecast for Saturday is high of 35 degrees with a chance for some flurries.

Outdoors at UVA provides:
Gas and transportation.

You must bring:
Money to pay for meals (breakfast on the drive there, lunch at White Grass and dinner on the return trip) and money for trail fees and rental. If you would like to save money, don’t hesitate to pack your lunch and eat breakfast before you meet for the trip. We plan to eat dinner on the drive home with the best options being in Harrisonburg. We could also stick around White Grass and eat in their cafe and hear live music if you all desire. It would likely just push our return time back an hour or two. We can make the decision as a group.

You must also bring warm clothes and dress in layers. You will get very warm XC skiing, so you’ll shed layers — but when you stop you’ll get cold so layering is crucial! A small day pack could be useful for carrying snacks and water while out on the ski trail. On that note, bring a few snacks for yourself. Cross country skiing burns a lot of calories and eating is one of the best ways to stay warm. Also attempt to be well hydrated before coming on this trip. Proper hydration is key to good thermoregulation.

NOTE: This trip is contingent on snow! If it warms up too much and they lose most of their snow, then the trip may be called off. It looks promising right now though.

The $24.00 includes $12 ski pass and $12.00 for rentals (assuming we have 10 people)

I am wait listing all participants until I have another driver or two.
