Are midterms making you chew your nails again? Are you tired of being trapped in the library studying until your eyes hurt? Then join me on one of Virginia’s best hikes: Old Rag. This 9 mile round trip hike comes complete with 2,400 feet of elevation gain, awesome rock scrambles, and a 360 degree view at the top that will almost make you forget all about that BIO midterm you have Wednesday.

PLEASE NOTE!!!: This hike is physically challenging with steep elevation gains for long distances. The rock scrambles are also some of the more difficult ones you will encounter on a hike. Hikingupward ranks it 4/5 in terms of difficulty.

We’ll meet at Echols at 9am Monday 10/2 and drive about an hour to the trail head. The hike will take about 6 hours (make sure to bring plenty of water and food) round trip. We’ll stop and eat lunch at the top, then head back down to be back in Cville by about 5pm.

Drivers will be prioritized! Drivers get full reimbursement for gas +50% tip. Please show up to Echols with a full tank of gas. I can only take 4 people in my car until I get another driver. I will take 9 people when another driver joins.

Since this hike is in the SNP, those with park passes will also be prioritized.

What to bring:
– Good hiking shoes (good grip is a must have)
– 2 liters of water
– Snacks/lunch for the top
– $1 for parking (in case we don’t have someone with a pass)
– Layers for the top (it can get chilly)
