Descending the chimney

OVERVIEW

I got a new national park pass as a very late birthday present/early christmas present and now I’m in the mood to spread some holiday cheer. Don’t worry we won’t be caroling but we will channel our inner santa (if you’ve got a santa hat bring it) and descend to chimney rocks in shenandoah this sunday. This is a pretty short hike since my schedule this week doesn’t like me, at 3.2 miles (830 feet of elevation gain), and is fairly beginner friendly.

General Timeline:
10:30 AM Meet corner of echols
11:30 AM Arrive riprap trailhead
12:20 PM Arrive Chimney Rocks
12:45 PM depart rocks
1:30 PM back at trailhead
2:30 PM back at echols

Unfortunately, I do not have a car so driver(s) are needed! If you have a car you will get priority for this trip and will also be eligible for gas reimbursement if you arrive at echols with a full tank of gas. I will let more people onto this trip if two drivers sign up. Also, we might need a second passholder so if you’ve got a park pass you will ALSO get priority.

You Bring:
– Hiking shoes/boots
– Water, better to bring too much than not enough
– Snacks/lunch
– Layers (plan for chilly weather)
– Santa hat or other appropriate holiday garb
– Park pass if you have one
I bring:
– All those things
– Binoculars
– National park pass
