Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Cumberland State Forest
Miss out on today’s hikes? Realize tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be 10 degrees warmer than today? Let’s go hiking!
Right now I am eying a flat hike along a river about an hour 15 southeast of here. Southeast of Charlottesville? I didn’t know there was anything worthwhile there except some big house that some famous politician lived in. Well, there is the website: http://www.dof.virginia.gov/stforest/index-csf.htm
The area is riddled with trails so we can decide as a group how long and where we want to hike. If we have enough people for 2 cars, we can do a shuttle, otherwise we’ll work out a loop or out and back. This could be seen as a bit of an exploratory mission. As for length, I am thinking 7-10 miles and there will be very little elevation change.
Taking a cue from Ryan’s hike, we will stop at Bodos on the way out of town to buy breakfast/lunch. If you prefer not to spend money, you can just bring your own with you.
*I am posting this late (sorry). We have to have at least 3 people or I will have to cancel.
If you’d like to join me, you provide:
-layered clothes. It is that time of year where moving will be warm and sitting will be chilly.
-water
-snacks and a lunch, or money to buy lunch
-good shoes for hiking
-Headlamp, just in case (I have no intentions of needing it)
Club provides:
-gas
-ride to and from
