Bonnycastle Circle
Woodlands Rd. Bridge Boat Ramp
This Sunday’s forecast is sunny with temps in high 60-ties.
Join me for an easy late afternoon paddle up the Ivy Creek.
We’ll meet at the Bonnycastle Circle and car-pool ~15 minutes
to the put-in location at Woodlands Rd. boat launch at
Charlottesville Reservoir. We’ll explore the lower section
of the Ivy Creek navigable by kayaks and go for a relaxing
paddle. That section of the Creek is really scenic and in
the past I have rarely encountered other kayakers – just
beavers, great herons, deer, eagles, turtles, and once, a coyote
(don’t worry, if need arises, I’ll handle them ;8-).
I will provide an inflatable two-seater, inflatable one-seater
and a folding kayak – so we will have a group of up to 4 paddlers.
(Smaller group is preferable for better wildlife viewing ;8-)
People joining must be willing to help with inflating/deflating
and folding/unfolding the boats! It will take us about 15-20 minutes
to set up the kayaks, about 5-10 minutes to take them apart.
Rain and/or forecasted lightening cancels the outing.
I’ll provide kayaks, paddles, life vests, dry bags, whistles,
first aid kit.
You bring: water shoes or flip-flops, comfortable clothing (avoid cotton,
synthetics is better, very light rain jacket might be useful), sunscreen, sunglasses/hat, water to drink, dry change of clothes/towel, snacks
if you want to have picnic on water.
We leave at 5PM, return before 8PM.
Please call me/email me if you need to ask a question before
or after sign-up/withdraw deadline. Emil 434-218-3645.
