Dragons Tooth Trailhead, Appalachian National Scenic Trail, Catawba, VA, USA
Come with me to hike Dragon’s Tooth on election day! This was my very first hike ever, completed at the age of seven, and I’ve been wanting to get back and reexperience the magic of October on the AT. It’s a 4.6-mile round trip hike with ~1250 feet of elevation gain. There is a small section at the top that you have to use some iron climb bars and rock scramble, but I’ve taken little kids and dogs on this hike so it’s definitely doable. Here’s the plan:
8am: leave cville
10am: get to trailhead and HIKE
2pm: back to car
4pm: back to cville
I’ve hiked this round trip in less than 2 hours (the sun was setting quickly) but I’m budgeting in 4 hours so that we have plenty of time to enjoy pretty colors and take a break at the top.
What you bring:
-weather appropriate hiking clothes (layers!)
-water
-snacks + lunch
-backpack to carry everything
What I bring:
-same as you
-first aid kit
Note: I have a car but it’s a tight squeeze to fit 4 people so if we can find another driver that’d be great!
