OVERVIEW

We get the day off for election day so let’s spend it voting and hiking!! In the spirit of the founding fathers, I’ve decided to ditch cars and walk to Monticello the old fashioned way. Every UVA student gets free admission as long as you have your id, so there’s no cost to go. My polling place is elsewhere, so I will already have voted when we get there, but everyone living on grounds (That means you first years!) should vote at slaughter before we head out!! If you are not registered to vote, you can still do so up to and on election day at the polling place (slaughter). Make sure to bring your drivers license or other id to the polling place.

Register to vote here if you haven’t already! After October 23th, the only way to register is in person, but I find online to be more convenient.

It’ll be about 6 miles each way, totaling a little over 12, with half of the walking being through Charlottesville and the other half on the Monticello trail to get up to the house. At some point we will have to walk alongside VA-20 for maybe 10 minutes, so keep that in mind.

What to bring:
Water and snacks (and maybe money if you want to stop by the cafe there)

Timeline
10 – Meet up at slaughter and go vote
10:30ish – Start making our way to Monticello
12:30 – Arrive at the house and tour around
2 or so – Head back to grounds
4 – Part ways
