Corner Of Echols Dorm
Also Corner of Echols Dorm
Old Rag Mountain, Virginia, USA
Hey guys! This trip accidentally fell into the technological abyss so I’m reposting it, please re-sign up now if you originally filled out the form a couple of days ago.
What better way to celebrate election day then to get out of civilization for awhile and go hike one of the (arguably) best day hikes in (or right outside of) the Shenandoah? Old Rag is a 9 mile loop that features a 2,3000ft elevation gain, a rock scramble section, and a 360 overlook of the mountains, as well as lots of other cool views.
Because of the distance and elevation, this trip is more suited towards intermediate hikers, and if you feel comfortable going longer distances at a moderate pace. Additionally, I will be buying 5 of the required $1 Old Rag day passes, and I will send my Venmo out once the trip participants are finalized. The drive is about 2 hours from grounds to the trailhead, so keep in mind this hike will be a full day’s commitment, though I have tried my best to estimate the timing. As long as no one is attacked by a rogue bear or poll worker, we should be back by 5 or 6 at the latest.
*We need a driver in order to go, so if you have a car and are willing to drive please sign up! You will be prioritized on the waitlist!!
The Plan:
8AM-Leave Echols for Trailhead
10AM-Arrive at Trailhead
10AM~2PM-Hike!! (plus lunch/snacks)
2-4/5PM-Back to Echols
What to Bring:
At least 32 oz of Water
Snacks and/or Lunch- enough food to make it through most of the day
Hiking boots or sturdy sneakers
Layers – It will be slightly warmer on Tuesday but still chilly in the morning
What I will bring:
Old Rag Passes
SNP Pass
Med Supplies
