Old Rag Mountain, Virginia, USA
Hi guys! I don’t know about you but this Election Day break is definitely the perfect time for a looooong and (somewhat) relaxing activity like hiking old rag! Not going to sugar coat it, this hike is definitely on the harder side of hikes I’ve done, but it is the most rewarding and by far my favorite hike! It’s an 9.4 mile journey that can take anywhere from 6-8 hours with a whopping 2,400 ft of elevation gain. I would recommend that people with some experience hiking or at least a base line level of endurance sign up for this hike, as it can get pretty difficult at some points and I want everyone to be able to enjoy their time on this mountain! This is not to scare anyone away but just to keep people aware of what they’re signing up for 🙂 Old Rag does require tickets to be bought (very cheap, only 2 dollars) in advance, which is why I set the deadline a couple days before the actual hike, just so we can ensure everyone can get a ticket. All that aside, if you think you are up for the challenge I highly recommend signing up! This is such a beautiful hike, and the foliage will likely be right around or after its peak, and I don’t know about you guys but there is nothing more I enjoy than a sandwich at the summit of a mountain on a beautiful fall day.
Also! One more thing to mention, my co-leader and I will be stopping by the voting center to cast our ballot before the hike so if you are a registered voter in virginia we can give you a ride to the center to come vote with us!! Everyone’s voice is important!!!
