OVERVIEW

Hello ODC!
Lillibet and I have come up with a completely original never before done idea: kayaking the James on election day! We’ll be sending a lower lap, so if you are looking to hit some class II-III+ rapids and don’t mind getting a little cold, then come join us on the James!

Since this is an intermediate trip, you should have your roll down and be a strong swimmer, especially with the cold. That being said, the club will provide you with wetsuits, drysuits, and splash/drytops to help keep you toasty. If you are able to do so, please pick up your gear (boat, paddle, spray skirt, PFD, helmet, cold water gear, etc) before the trip on Tuesday. If you need help getting gear, please let us know!

Waitlist Policy:
Due to this being an intermediate trip, priority will be given to those with intermediate and above experience levels.

NOTICE
Whitewater sports are inherently dangerous. We lead trips at a level where we feel confident about our ability to keep people on our trip safe. Your safety also depends on YOU, your honest communication of your abilities and state of being, as well as respect towards any safety advice.

General plan
8:00 – Meet at SAB parking lot and consolidate boats and gears
9:30 – Arrive at 14th street take out, drop cars for shuttle, do any needed changing/dry clothes distribution
10:00 – Arrive at Reedy Creek, prepare to exercise our civic duty of white water kayaking
(Snack break somewhere around here maybe)
2:00 (at latest) – arrive at the take out
2:30 – Return to Cville
4:00 – back at SAB

What to Bring
-White water gear (boat, paddle, spray skirt, PFD, helmet, cold water gear, etc)
–Clothes (WOOL OR WATER WICKING, SYNTHETIC COMPRESSION, NO COTTON) that will fit under a splashtop or drysuit (should be formish fitting)
