OVERVIEW

It has been an astonishing four weeks since I last visited West Virginia, this is unacceptable.

For this Election Day, we’ll be paddling the Upper and Lower sections of the New River. Unfortunately, the Cunard put-in is closed because a landslide wiped out part of the road, but the Upper will be chill and a pretty fun warm-up. Check out the AW for the upper and lower if you want to know what you’re getting into but this trip will be for the intermediate to advanced level kayaker (super confident on class III+). It will also be kind of cold with a high of 60 degrees, the water will be starting to cool down a bit too. The level will be around 1.2ft which should be a pretty chill fun level.

General Schedule:
8:00 – meet at Shrack, go get gear
12:00 – arrive, set shuttle, put on
3:30 – finish paddling, start heading back
7:30 – arrive back in Charlottesville
*These are rough estimates, I’ll try and hold us to this but we may be back slightly earlier or later

Bring: Your kayaking stuff, cold gear, food/water if you want it

Let me know if you have any questions about the run, what to bring, the schedule, or any other grand questions about the universe or our place in it.

Notice – Whitewater sports are inherently dangerous. We lead trips at a level where we feel confident about our ability to keep people on our trip safe. Your safety depends on you and your honest communication of your abilities and state of being, as well as respect towards any safety advice. Pay attention to the trip talk and be ready to self-rescue.
