Embodiment (LGBTQIA+ Affinity Trip)

OVERVIEW

Real moment: it took me a long time to get comfortable with myself and my body. When I was a student, I remember cherishing my time in solitude outdoors in part because it was one of the few environments where I could exist in a disembodied way, escaping the perceptions of individuals and the judgements of society.

While I believe that supporting space for disembodiment is an important act of protection, I have since grown to recognize the healing that can come from being physical, carnal, embodied. This trip is a celebration of the body and self-acceptance in the context of the outdoors.

Who: any and all LGBTQIA+ people who want to commune with nature through their physical forms. This is a trip that is explicitly safe and welcoming for trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people. All LGBTQIA+ identities welcome.

What: whatever you want it to be. A few ideas: body paints (I will bring these), frolicking through the woods, massage train, hammock nap, breathing and meditation, anything else you can think of! If it rains, I can bring chalk for some swirly chalking fun.

Where: meet at Echols, proceed to wherever feels right. I was thinking the O’Hill trails would be nice, but am open to the graveyard, the Gardens, Dell, or wherever else feels right to the group. This will be an outdoor trip, rain or shine.

Please dress for the weather so you can stay warm and dry. Feel free to bring anything you feel would help you or the group have fun with embodiment – hammocks, blankets, paints, chalks, foam rollers, guided meditations, musical instruments, whatever other ideas you might have.

Note: this is an affinity trip, so please do not sign up for this trip if you do not identify as LGBTQIA+.
