OVERVIEW

The town of Oak Hill just south of Fayetteville, WV opened up 300 acres of boulder fields. Saturday’s forecast there is 49 degrees and sunny. I’m ready to go check them out. See video:

Plan is to leave Cville at 6:00 Friday. That will put us at the NRG around 10:00, where I have a small cabin about 12 minutes past Ray’s. Crash there for the night (beds and couches, or outside options). Fuel up on Saturday morning with coffee and Exxon biscuits, then go bushwhacking and exploring in the boulder field. Focus is on covering as much terrain as possible. Snacks+lunch picnic, then probably Pies and Pints for dinner before heading back to the cabin. Sunday morning, I want to check out some of the miles of trails that start 300 yards away from the cabin. Option to trail run or mountain bike. Or just sleep in. Leave about 10am, back in Cville at 2:00.

Trip is set to 5 for now. I have a crew cab truck I’m driving out, could add more if somebody else wants to drive, maybe as a possible option to leave Saturday morning? However, that’s a lot of daylight to lose driving when the days are already so short.

What to bring:
Layers
Sturdy shoes to handle a scree field
Climbing shoes, crash pad
Sleeping bag + pad
Water bottle
$20 at least for food.
Something for an easy breakfast Sunday-I’ll have box of oatmeal+bananas
Desire for a first ascent, bushwhack skills, a good playlist for the road…
