Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Old Rag
So…you’re not doing anything cool for “reading” break. Now you can! The hike to Old Rag Mountain offeres SPECTACULAR views. This is one of the most popular hikes in Virginia, and it’s a club favorite!
There is another club trip to Old Rag that is leaving at 8:30 am, so this is your chance to still enjoy the outdoors if you just can’t face getting up that early.
Old Rag is about an hour away in Shenendoah National Park. It’s an 8-mile, moderately difficult, 5 hour hike with an elevation gain of 2,200 feet. When we get near the top, we’ll get to scramble on some rocks and eat lunch while appreciating 360 degree views.
Depending on everyone’s schedules, maybe we can stop for ice cream on the way back. Unfortunately, the club doesn’t pay for that, so bring extra money if you’re interested.
Bring: $5 for park entrance (more if you want ice cream), hiking boots or shoes, WATER (at least 1 liter), snacks and lunch, layers (maybe chilly in the morning and on top), camera, sunscreen, and bugspray.
Club pays for: Gas
