Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Asheville, NC
Fall break is almost upon us, and I am following the Blue Ridge / my heart to Western North Carolina!!! We’ll be camping in Pisgah National Forest, near the happy hippie town of Asheville. The region is rife with biodiversity; home to miles of waterfalls, peaks, and old-growth forest; and boasts one of the longest, most colorful fall foliage seasons in the Southeast!
A website wrote, of Asheville: “Tree-covered mountain summits and grassy balds fill the horizon, and deep-cut river valleys and gorges slice through the landscape, spilling and tumbling and diving in scores of majestic waterfalls.”
Staying in Pisgah, we’ll be in close proximity to: Nantahala National Forest, a section of the AT, and segment 3 of NC’s Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Potential activities include: hiking Grandfather Mountain (“the Old Rag of North Carolina”), summiting the highest peak east of the Mississippi, mountain biking in Bent Creek, waterfall explorin’, and more. There is a wealth of outdoorsy fun to be had, so we can plan our itinerary as a group later on.
