OVERVIEW

This Friday’s forecast: 68deg, sunny and mild. Yippee!

Fall Climbing 3 will go to an as-yet undetermined location based on who signs up, what they say of their ability and experience, what I know of their ability and experience, and how many people sign up. Possibilities include but are not limited to Franklin, Old Rag, and Seneca. You may note that some of those destinations are primarily or exclusively trad. You will not be leading trad, however you may get some nice long double-rope rappels in. There is a possibility of leaving Thursday night and camping at whatever place we go to, which would be particularly nice in the case of Seneca, considering the required departure time (see below) required to get any appreciable time in on the rock.

Franklin: We all know Franklin by now. Top rope, sport. Departure time: 7:45am.

Old Rag: Some of the best routes on the east coast, including one that some say is the best crack anywhere east of the Mississippi (Strawberry Fields, 9+/11a). Primarily trad. Strenuous approach. Top rope for you. Departure time: 7am.

Seneca: One of the premier climbing destinations in the east if not the continental US. Multi-pitch trad at grades 5.1 – 5.12+. Sport starting in the hard 11’s. Actually has a summit unlike all these piddly little cliffs we’ve been busying ourselves with. Top rope for you, rappelling. Departure time: 6am.

Other: It’s still semi-secret so I’m not telling unless we end up going there, and I’m telling you now we probably won’t. However, it’s one of my favorites. Sport. Departure time: 8am.

Love Gap / Little Stoneyman / Ravens Roost / Moormans / Humpback Rocks / a few other places close to Cville: I don’t know the routes there well enough to lead a trip there. So don’t ask. Oh, and Moormans isn’t worth a day trip.

Hidden Rocks: If you want to go to Hidden, be my guest.

Manchester Wall: I feel dirty even typing those words, but if you really want to go there, we can go there. Top rope, sport. Departure time: 8am.

Also, please note that because I am being sent on a work trip today through as late as Thursday, if you need shoes or other club gear, it is your responsibility to get to one of the gear rooms and pick it up. However, check with me first. I have some gear that you may be able to use. I will not have regular access to email through this time so please call – 540-239-1107. If I don’t answer, leave a message and I’ll return it ASAP. If I don’t get back to you in time, assume you need to get your gear.

Giddyup.

Requirements: Able to tie in, belay a top rope, and cleanly climb 5.8 on top rope.

Club provides: Climbing gear, ga$ money.

You provide: Any climbing gear you own (harness, shoes, etc), appropriate clothing, water, pack lunch, sturdy shoes for the approach, camera, $ for dinner, kick ass attitude and a smile.
