OVERVIEW

Come backpacking in the Shenandoah this weekend! The Furnace Mountain loop includes lots of spectacular views, rockslides, and a nice campsite. It’s just over 13 miles total, most of which we’ll tackle on Saturday.

This hike is probably Beginner/Intermediate level backpacking and does feature some steep ascents, but anyone who’s been backpacking before or is in tolerably good shape should be fine.

The trip will cost somewhere between 10-15 $, and includes Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast, and park Day passes. Gas $ is compensated by the club. Unless you plan on catching squirrels and picking berries, you should bring lunch for both days. Depending on the group’s pace and schedule, we should probably get back to Cville well before 4.

You’ll need personal gear – backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, and pads can be checked out from the club. If you haven’t been backpacking before and aren’t sure what to bring email me and I’ll send you a quick list. Please bring (at least) 3 Liters of water.

I don’t have a car so this trip requires drivers.
