FERAL THURSDAY at Rivanna

OVERVIEW

Hellooooo people
Come be feral with me at the Rivanna river. This is for my capstone so I will ask you to take a quick paper survey before and after your experience. It’s a little mysterious, perhaps a little funky and fresh, but I want you there this Thursday morning… for feral activities. We will be in and around the river, so wear something you feel comfortable doing that in. This is the second FERAL trip so you’ll get priority off the waitlist if you’ve been to one before.

Here’s again what I am thinking about with ferality:
“ I see feral as the borderlands, the inbetweens. Feral creatures are making a way for themselves in and around the structures of the regulated, domesticated world. What I am arguing for here is NOT the sterile sublimity of a mountain peak with no sign of other humans. This is not the wilderness scraped clean and picturesque. This feral principle is the Rivanna river running brown after a storm. It’s the trees covered in ivy on O’Hill. It’s the redbuds breathing in exhaust down the JPA corridor. We live in a world that is so permeable and full of humanity’s influence. It would be a disservice to ignore this fact on the way to becoming more present and better witnesses.”

Timing:
10am meet at echols
drive to a spot on the Rivanna river
10:15 commence 1 feral hour
11:15 done
11:30 back to echols

To bring:
water
clothes you can move in
shoes that can get wet

we can bring more people if we have another car! no gas reimbursement though because its super close
