OVERVIEW

I’m not usually one to run away to WV for a whole day amidst finals week. That said, I have 4 full days to study for a test that’s non-cumulative and open-note. So why not live life dangerously. (But climb safely, of course)

Franklin Gorge is a super cool looking area, and also one of the closest places to get real outdoor sport climbing to Charlottesville. Because of this, it’s been on my radar since the beginning of the year. But, unfortunately it’s located on private property. So we’ve resisted the urge to climb there, until at least I heard from a fellow ODC climber that she talked to the owners, and they’re cool with people climbing. We’re gonna keep it to a small group to be courteous. Franklin Gorge looks like it has a lot of cool long sport routes (https://www.mountainproject.com/area/110310448/franklin-gorge). We plan to mostly climb in the 5.8-low 5.10 range. I would like to have people who can lead climb/belay, and clean, but those who can only top rope are also welcome. We’ll just be managing the group to make sure we have enough experienced folks.

YOU BRING:
Climbing stuff (helmet, harness, shoes, chalk)
Water
Lunch and snacks
Appropriate clothing to be outside all day (advice for cold weather climbing from New Hampshire: bring a belay jacket (heaviest jacket you own) and maybe down booties for belaying, hand warmer in chalk bag or pocket for climbing)

WE’LL BRING:
Ropes
Draws
Stick clip

I think that’s all, but text us if you need anything.
