first fido field trip!

OVERVIEW

i’ve officially signed up to be a volunteer for the caspca program “fido field trips” where i get to take a shelter dog out on an adventure for the day. this gives them the chance to exercise & socialize, so i’m hoping to make it a weekly thing!

i’m picking up a mystery pupper at 9:15 AM then we will be ready to hit this 3.5 miles out-and-back trail. i’ve never done mary’s rock before but i hear its pretty moderate with just a few steep sections and a fabulous 360° view. for more details: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/virginia/marys-rock-via-appalachian-trail-north-approach

the plan:
10:00 AM echols
11:30 AM trailhead
1 PM summit
~30 min summit hang~ (munch on lunch, soak up the sun, take pics of dog in “adopt me” attire)
2:30 PM leave trailhead
4:00 PM back in cville (dog must be returned by 5 PM, so if for some reason we’re cutting it close, my car will accompany me to the CASPCA)

to bring:
– layers
– 2L water
– snacks/lunch
– calm, gentle tones & body language, dog may be very nervous/overwhelmed

DRIVERS GET PRIORITY OFF THE WAITLIST!! drivers are reimbursed for gas + 50% tip!
