James River - Glasgow To Snowden (Balcony Falls)
With slight rain and warmer temperature on the forecast, I can’t resist the temptation to plan some kayaking for this weekend.
The James River near Glasgow is at a nice class II/III level right now, and should be good for anyone with a reliable roll, who wants to begin warming up their paddlin’ arms for lucky ’07.
Also: If good rain comes and causes more stuff to run, I’d like to look for a more exoctic (iii/iv), less frequently available run. For this reason, and because the water is likely still oh-so-frigid, please only sign up if you feel quite confident on the James, and possibly confident on something more slippery.
Definately e-mail with questiones.
The club has ‘yakin gear for you, including some extra cold-water protection.
You need to bring:
Non-cotton layers and river-suitable footwear. (I would probably include heavy socks)
Towel and warm cottoney layers for afterwards.
Water, high-calorie snaks, $$ for possible more water and high-calorie snaks.
I may expand the trip depending on the gear and cars available to us.
