Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Devil's Marbleyard
This is an EXCELLENT hike- I did it last year and can’t wait to go back!
Devil’s Marbleyard is tucked deep into Arnold’s Valley. Although not very well-known, it is one of the most spectacular hikes in Virginia because it has fun scrambling and great views. The drive to the trailhead will take 1 1/2-2 hours, and we’ll start with an easy 1.5 mile hike through the woods. From there, the mountain opens up into a 100 acre outcrop of granite rock, with rocks ranging in the size of “small pebbles to boulders the size of houses.” The grade is relatively steep, and you’ll have to use your hands to scramble 1/2-mile stretch to the top.
The forecast shows a 60% chance of rain on friday, so check your email because I’ll have to cancel the trip if the rocks will be too slippery. If it is cancelled, keep your eyes peeled for the rescheduled date!
