Friday SNP Hike – INT

OVERVIEW

Weather looks awesome and Jill and I both get out of class at noon on Friday so were planning to hike the Big Run Portal loop in SNP. Contrary to what the name might suggest, this hike will neither be big, nor likely involve a run, nor likely involve passage through any portal. But it should give us some great SNP views and be a generally good time.

Hiking Project says it will be 10 miles 2100′. My recent experiences with hiking/MTB project seem to suggest that that actually means like 11 miles 2300′. But I’m pretty sure that this time I at least have the right baseline mileage on the trip description because, unlike last time, it did not rely on me doing simple addition.

Things to bring:
– Sturdy hiking or trail running shoes
– Layers (check weather)
– Lots of water (2 liters minimum I’ll probably pack 3)
– Snacks/lunch
– Headlamp (ya never know…)

Approximate Schedule:
12:30 PM – Arrive at Corner of Echols Dorm
1:30 PM – Arrive at TH
6:30 PM – Leave from TH
7:30 PM – Get back to cville

I would say that’s a pretty conservative timeline for completing the hike. With that said, our trips our no stranger to extraneous delays (there’s a few good stories here) so don’t sign up if you have anything super important/time sensitive Friday evening.

Drivers will be prioritized. Drivers get full reimbursement for gas + 50% tip. Show up with a full tank of gas to be reimbursed.
