Frozen Moonrise Kingdom (Humpback night-hike)

OVERVIEW

Take 1 on catching the moonrise from Humpback was a major success on all fronts, so let’s send it again!

The rationale: why wake up way too early for the sunrise and be zonked in classes for the rest of the day when you could instead, head out in the evening to catch the MOONrise, maybe wish on a few shootin stars while you’re at it, and then come right back to a nice and cozy bed with a tired and content body that will happily collapse until it is needed again in the morning?

The twist: just speculating from the forecast and how windy mountaintops around these parts can get in the evenings, I think there’s a solid chance this will be the coldest weather that several attendees will have ever been exposed to. Challenge? Accepted.

The 411:
-Humpback, about a mile up, pretty steep. https://www.hikingupward.com/gwnf/humpbackrocks/
-Moonrise, should be visible around 6:48pm to the East/Northeast

Logistics:
-Meet at Echols @ 5:30pm
-Drive to Humpback, start hike ~6pm
-Summit, stargaze, try to stay warm ~6:40pm
-Observe (with any luck) a giant piece of cheese rising over the horizon ~6:48pm
-High tail it outta there, drive back, back on grounds ~8:15pm at the latest

You bring:
-headlight
-sturdy hiking shoes
-layers layers layers
-blankets/sleeping bags/anything you think you will need to stay warm
-1L of water + snacks, warm beverage?
-more layers
